Social media have become part of our daily lives. More than 37% of the world population are on some sort of social media. It has become almost impossible to live without them. It is important not to let social media dictate the way you live your life and what you want from life. Here are seven ways to take control over your social media.
1. Your time is precious
Set limits on the amount of time you spend on social media, wasted time never come back. Discipline yourself to walk away from that when you have reached your limited time to avid getting stuck in endless cycle between different social media platforms.
2. It isn’t real life
Social media isn’t real life. Try to spend as much time as you can with your real friends, meet up. A lot is lost between you and your friends when social media is your only way of communication. Hang out more together and do real stuff.
Don’t let it be a distraction. social media update shouldn’t be a distraction while you drive, playing with your kids or spending time with your partner or friends. It reduces productivity, attention and effectiveness at tasks.
4 . Turn off notification
Mute or turn off notification from group chats, they are great when you want to pass a message to many people at the same time but also annoying. Control who can see if you are online or not. Some people are so bored that they wait for whoever is online to start calling and texting for no reasons. Control who can see your online activity.
5. Be selective
You can’t be on all social media platforms, select the ones that are most important or most relevant to your business and log off the rest. The lesser media platforms you are on, the easier it become to master them.
6. Cut your network
Don’t feel oblige to follow and accept request from people you don’t really know. You owe nothing to no one, the number of your followers doesn’t mean anything. Unless you are an influencer and your making money from your accounts, in that case it is pure business. For you and I who have personal account, the followers number means nothing. It only add more pressure.
7. Take a break
If you feel confuse or overwhelmed by all the things going on on social media, take a break. You are allowed to, take time to figure out what you are really looking for on social media.
