Whether it is in terms of your diet, work ethic, relationships or fitness, self discipline is the number one quality you need to accomplish your goal.

Practice, fail and start over, self discipline is the art of trying, failing and trying again and daily. It starts with a daily commitment. It is important to understand your productivity patterns, identify and write down clear goals, visualize the outcomes and make an action plan to achieve those goals. Practice on a daily basis. Furthermore, it is important to know your weaknesses, acknowledge your vulnerabilities and stop pretending they don’t exist only then you will be able to do something about them. Own up your flaws and overcome them. In addition to that, removing temptations are equally important as owning up your flaws. The fewer distractions you have, the more focused you will be on accomplishing your goals. Stay away from bad influence, from people who are allergic to discipline and think it is weird and old school. Knowing yourself is a crucial part of building self discipline.

Start small, pick few habits to focus on each and every week, take one step at the time. For example start carrying your own bottle of water on campus, at the gym or at work rather than buying water every single day. Pack your own hand sanitizer rather than asking around every time you go out. Start making your own bed everyday when you wake up. Start small, choose yourself what small changes you want to make in your life and stick to them, if you can be disciplined in the smallest things, it will be easier for you to add more things to do every week.

It all starts with the ability of self control through discipline: your thoughts, emotions, behaviors and habits. Understanding how to discipline yourself daily is the key ingredient to a happier and even healthier life. All the knowledge in the world is worth nothing if you don’t possess the self discipline to use that knowledge. Remember why you are doing what you are doing to take the necessary actions and follow through even when it gets harder and harder. When you are focused on your goals and vision for your life, you are able to make decisions that contribute to those goals.

Decide in advance and make commitment that even if it gets hard, giving up is not an option. Moreover, have a plan for when you won’t feel like doing what you are supposed to do. determine how long you will deal with failures and setbacks. Be determine to achieve your wildest dreams and goals, remember that everything you are doing, you are doing it for yourself first, for your own well being and happiness (see related post on self determination. Even in the hardest time, stay focused and discipline.

Self discipline is the ability to do what you have to do when you have to do it whether you feel like it or not

My dad has been my role model when it come to self discipline, he always did what he said he was going to do no matter what happen. I have learnt and picked up a lot from him when it come to self discipline. I have always been accountable to myself and learnt to motivate myself when no one is watching all thanks to the example I copied from my dad. I challenged myself to go meatless, no alcohol and no Fuzzy drinks for 40 days, I started on February 26 and it has been one of the most difficult journey. Especially during the self isolation period where it could have been easy to give in, I stayed strong and kept on eating what I was supposed to eat and followedmu plan. It is also important to note that people don’t copy what you say but what you do, maybe someone is looking up to you right now if you can’t be discipline for yourself, at least do it for them.

    1. Yes it’s hard to maintain it when negativity is all over but it’s a journey you have to be willing to go through to be stronger than all those negativity and maintain self discipline.
