21 qualities you must develop

I have recently read a book by John C. Maxwell: The 21 indispensable qualities of a leader. Although it is an old book, the principles in it still apply to the current situation and I believe it will still be relevant for the next 50 years.

Those 21 qualities listed in the book are equally important to everyone. You don’t need to be at a certain level to start developing them. Everything can be learnt, don’t ever say ” I was born this way” or ” I have always done things this way”. Everything you know today you have learnt it over the years.

21 qualities to develop

Character (1), Charisma (2) and Commitment (3). Commitment is what separate dreamers from doers. Learn to be committed to what you believe is important to you. Commit to your dreams, your goals, your family, your partner, your children, you name it. Be committed. Work on your Communication skills (4), Competence (5), Courage (6), Discernment (7) and Focus (8). Focus on what you have planned to do, don’t loose sight of the end goal focus on what you do best. The sharper your focus, the sharper you are.

Strengthen your Generosity (9), initiative (10), listening skills (11), passion (12), positive attitude (13) and problem solving skills (14). You can’t let your problem be a problem. Develop your problem solving skills see related post five tips to solve your problems. There is no life without problems, they will always come. Be ready when they come and solve them. Remember that the problem is not having a problem but having the same problem as last year.

The last part of the book talked about developing qualities such as great relationship (15), great sense of responsibilities (16), security (17), self discipline (18) and servant-hood (19), having great vision (20) and being teachable (21). In order to learn one has to be teachable. If you think you know everything, you know nothing. Always be ready to learn new things, be open to acquire new knowledge to do more than what you did last time. Opportunities to learn are everywhere.

This book taught me that if you are still excited about what you id last year, you haven’t done anything better this year. Keep improving and be the best version of yourself.

Are you being yourself?

Till next Sunday

Be Yourself

  1. Thanks for sharing. I have not heard of this book. I agree that these types of qualities are still relevant and will continue to be. I may need to add this to my read next list!

  2. This is a beautiful post! I love how well it flows as you list everything out. Aesthetically as well as in content, it is wonderful. It also makes me want to add this book to my TBR pile, to be picked up at another date. Thank you for this entry!

  3. The book must be good because your write-up was great. I feel like I got a great run-down. Super timeless. I think being reachable and commitment would be focuses right now. Lol. And focus. Happy blogging! 🖤
