5+ tips to handle a busy schedule

We all reach a point in our lives where there is too many things to do but there is only little time. Have you ever reached that point? Blogging and studying at the same time sometimes become hectic with staying consistent, keeping up my school work, attending events, doing my own events and finding time to take care of myself. Likely, I have been applying some tips to handle my busy schedule and the good news is you can also apply them to handle your busy schedule.

Tips and tricks to handle a busy agenda and schedule. How to be more productive and stop procrastinating

5+ tips to handle your busy schedule

1. Prioritize

The very first step to start managing your busy schedule is to prioritize. What is more important and what is urgent? When you prioritize your work remember that sometimes what’s urgent is not important and what’s important is not urgent. See related article to get more insights on this concept It’s important, it’s urgent.

2. Don’t over commit yourself

You can’t carry the world on your shoulders, it is not your responsibility to do everything for everyone. Don’t promise things you can’t deliver, you can only do a certain amount of things at the time. Don’t be afraid to turn down others propositions if you can’t fully commit to them, you are allow to say no to something even if you don’t have anything planned for the day.

3. Make a plan and stick to it

Now that you know what need to be done, plan for it. How are you going to achieve your goals? What do you need? How long should you work on it? Make an action plan and get going. You can’t give up on a plan if you haven’t tried it out. Remember every plan works out in your head but sometimes in reality it is another story. If the plan doesn’t work change it as many time as you have to but keep the end goal in mind.

4. Don’t push yourself too hard

Make time for yourself, you need to be physically, emotionally, intellectually and spiritually strong to smash all your goals. Take time for yourself you need to be at your best to give your best.

5. Take a break away from everything

Sometimes you get caught into getting things done, deadlines and meetings that you forget about your 8 hours sleep and eating healthy. Take time to relax and rest, take time to just do nothing at all even if your break means 1 hour nap or a walk in the park. There are different kind of breaks to choose from when you are on a busy schedule, choose what suit you and help you regenerate, refocus and readjust. See related article Give me a break.

6. Use your time wisely

We all have 24 hours to live in a day. I am sure you have heard about the famous quote saying the earlier you wake up the more time you live in a day. However, remember that it is not about what time you woke up this morning but it is about what do you do with your time when you are up. Waking up at 5 AM procrastinating and doing nothing until 10 AM it’s the same as me waking up at 9 AM and starting my work at 10 AM. Time is your most valuable asset.

7. Learn to deal with distractions

Whenever you decide to get serious with your work, that is when everyone is calling you, your friends are uploading their pictures and videos on social media and people want your opinions about their lives. Put your phone on silence, put do not disturb mode, go work where you know no one will disturb you. If you live with a big family tell everyone you are not going to be available for the next few hours so that they won’t call you just to find out if you know where is the remote control.

  1. Such good tips – almost all I use myself. One thing that my mum taught me to do, was spend 45 minutes working (with nothing around that could distract you ie. phone), then take a 15 minute break and then repeat.

  3. I love that you added dealing with distractions! Distractions are part of life and sealing yourself in a soundproof room to get things done just isn’t realistic for most. Great post and tips!

  4. Good tips! I find that when I write down my to-do list, it forces me to prioritize things because once it’s written I can clearly see the more important items standing out so I can focus on those instead.

  5. I need to do a better job at being more flexible and accepting when my schedule goes to crap (aka sick kiddo at home all day instead of working, etc). Thanks for the reminder to ease up!

  6. Divine, I love the times you just take a break to catch a breather, then get right back to work. This time around, you spruce matters up – a day can get so short and crammed up with work. Let alone your own work, when helping others to meet their deadlines, targets, and goals it’s a craze, but a lot of fun. The guarantee is that no two days are ever the same. How exciting? Right?

To take the break or not to take the break? that’s the big question.

  7. Thanks for these great tips. Number 4 I do too often as I over commit myself. Despite a busy schedule of study, work, blogging and general home life I find it important to take time out daily. It really helps with refocusing.

  8. Thank you for this post. I recently went back to school at age 52. I’m going to get my certification in Health Coaching. As a cancer survivor, I want to ultimately become a cancer coach. It’s going to be a busy year for me. I definitely need tips on time management, Managing my blog, finding time with family, and traveling for business engagements alongside school will be a challenge. Health and family are priorities for me. Self care and finding time to relax and de stress are so important for health, you are correct. I need to work on saying no and not getting overwhelmed.
